Secular music/artists with Christian Themes

What songs do kids hear on the radio that they might not realize have a Christian message and/or what artists do they hear on the radio that they might not realize have a Christian singing background? And what ideas do you have about how to use these?

I'm trying to identify what artists and songs kids in the secular world might be hearing and might like that are either by Christian artists, or have been redone by Christian artists because the song has a theme that can be applied to Christian life (like the Evanecence song that thw worship team performed a few month back - wjae me up inside).

One of the ideas would be that at outreach events, some of these songs could be played to demonstrate that Chistian music and Christian themes are in your world today and you may not have even known it - and it's pretty cool stuff. And then they might question what other Christian music sounds like, etc.

It could also be another tool for tweens and teens to have in conversation.

I went on the fish's website and found some of these Christian artists who are probably also recognizable in the secular world...

Amy Grant, Bob Carlisle, CeCE Winans, Michael W. Smith, Rebecca St. James, Sixpence none the richer, Stacy Orrico, zoegirl.

Hmm - as I look at that short list I'm not so sure there's lots of ammunition there. Mayve the more powerful thing to consider is what secular songs have been redone by Christian artists? For example I heard Phil Collins' "In the air tonight" redone on the Fish last night.

I'm just thinking that music is such a powerful influence in kids - somehow we need to find ways to expose more unchurched kids to hip Christian music.

Any other ideas?
