So this idea actually came from our 6 year old. She wants to help serve. She really wants to "help other kids" in some way. I wonder what ideas we might be able to come up with to teach the younger kids about the value and significance of serving.

I think teaching young kids the concept of serving is awesome!! I think I had mentioned this at the meeting and is on the line of what Michelle had said. What if we have families (including their kids) greet outside the classroom doors??? The Tsunami bake sale was awesome. That just takes alot of extra work, so we have to be careful to keep things simple. Pray on this one!!

It would be cool if we had some kind of volunteer board that shows ideas that we'd like to do, but that we need someone to step up and lead them. If you can rotate the leadership on some of these things and not necessarily put the load on this group, I think we'll find volunteers who are very excited to participate that way on a single initiative. Of course, they would still need some direction and guidance, but the more we can empower and delagate the better off we'll be as the church continues to grow. Also, a volunteer that's given the opportunity to lead something that way, may become more likely to jump on the next serving opportunity, may make them feel closer to God, etc.

Maybe "the board" is something more than a servant needed board too - maybe it's a "TreeHouse Kids Needs..." board. It might include "stuff" too.

I dunno - just an idea...

TONS of ideas at kidology.org. Unfortunately a lot of the stuff is "for members only." Jamie I know you were investigating the cost of membership. Would it get us a single sign on or multiple?

Just answered my own question - $125 gets you access for up to 200 people in your ministry group.

Jamie and Dinese - I think you probably still have some free trial time - if you haven't already, explore that site and be sure to check all the forums and resource down along the nav bar on the left. See if you think this might be a good invesment or not.

Hey, if any of you can think of how to tie illusions to Bible stories or biblical principals, please share. I can do illusions to make things disappear, reappear, levitate (small things), read your mind, guess your card find your card in a deck, change all the cards in the deck to your card and change them back to a regular deck, tunr to coins into one, turn nickels into dimes, changes pages in a coloring book from blank, to black and white, to color, and some other stuff. We also have the magic bag that makes things disappear and reappear.

Of course we'd want to stress that these things are just illusions and that the Biblical tie-in is...

So - do we have any ideas?

From Steph (who STILL hasn't joined the blog!!!)

I wanted to throw this out to you to see what you
think about the outreach day at the church. What if
we had some kind of craft table for some of the kids.
Some kids are to shy to do some of the other stuff
like the slime time or other activities and need
something quiet to do like making faith bracelets,
necklaces, cross sand art necklaces, magnets, tatoos,
etc...

Have a face painting maybe do hairbraids with the
faith beads in their hair how about this just came to
me to write little messages like Jesus loves you on
paper and attach them to a helium balloon and have a
big lift off.

Here's another idea probably more for the tweens/teens but what about getting Christian music on secular radio stations? Seems like they all do a top 5 at 5 or top 7 at 7 kinda thing. What if they were challenged to not only call in themselves for a particular current Christian music hit, but also to encourage their friends to listen and even vote. Maybe even partner with other churches. The idea would be to reach out to a secular audience on their own turf. Cool?

Here's a neat idea that came from Ryan Frank's Kidzmatter site...

April 3, Ben Stiller hosted the 18th Annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Kids (ages 6-11) from around the world casted more than 18 million votes for this "Oscar Junior" event.

In an attempt to minister "in the world of kids" we are having our first Kids' Choice Sunday at the end of April. The kids will be given ballots where they will vote on the songs, the lesson, the game, the prizes, the snacks, and all other components of kids' church. Then the following Sunday we will do what they want to do! The energy and excitement are growing as we get close to this special Sunday.
